Keb Darge hangs up his Deep Funk headphones
2June 2, 2010 by Nigel
After running the legendry Deep Funk club nights for 20 years. 16 of these years at Madame Jojos in London’s Soho. DJ Keb Darge has decided to call time on Deep Funk. Deep Funk was the focal point for London’s soul and funk community. With a playlist featuring the best in rare and deep funk, northern soul, 60’s RnB and 1950’s rock n roll.
Keb who has been favouring the 1950’s sounds more and more for quite some time now decided it was time to move on so that he could concentrate on a new night. In his owns words Keb says:
“I still like my funk, but a lack of new discoveries has brought in a tad of tedium. In contrast I have found that there is a wealth of unknown fifties recordings ready to explode on the dancefloor. More than enough to last my lifetime.”.
Keb’s new night “RockaRolla WangDangDo” at the Bedroom Bar in Shoreditch kicks off on Friday 9th July. DJ’s will be Lucinda Slim (Deep Funk), Little Edith, Swampcat Caz and of course Keb himself. Future guest DJ’s will include Paul Weller, Cut Chemist, and Cosmic Keith
But fear not funksters as a new club night has emerged from the ashes of Deep Funk. The new night will feature the Djing delights of Snowboy and Healer Selecta (Raison D’Etre Collective) and is called “On The Good Foot” named after the James Brown classic ‘Get on the Good Foot’.
On the Good Foot picks up where Deep Funk left of focusing on the sounds of deep funk, mambo, samba, boogaloo, disco and soul from the sixties and seventies. On the Good Foot launches on Friday 4th June.
