Daptone Records are well known in the funk and soul community for producing music heavily influenced by the sounds of the 1960’s but with a modern-day twist.
The Daptone sound is the mastermind of record label founder and engineer Gabriel Roth. Shying away from modern recording techniques the Daptone studio favours old skool equipment and techniques, recording straight to tape.
Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings are Daptone’s most well known artist. Alongside Sharon this mix also features many of the other amazing artists on the label. Artists such as The Sugarmen 3, Charles Bradley, The Budos Band, Antibalas, Naomi Davis and Saun & Starr.
