Mayfield – On The Ropes [New Music]

Melbourne’s newest and funkiest record label Choi Records bring us the new 45 from Mayfield. Over the past few months Choi Records have been putting out solid funk and soul 45’s from the likes of The Traffic and Fulton Street and we for one are big fans of the label.
With little to no marketing or promotion this little Melbourne-based record label is getting a lot of attention for some of the biggest influencers and DJs in the business. A certain Craig Charles is a fan nonetheless !
“On The Ropes” is raw and heavy funk of the highest order. As soon as the needle hits the record you are delighted with a heavy heavy drum break. Those drums on their own are worth their weight in gold. But add to that an ultra funky guitar, screaming Hammond organ, and a super hot tenor solo 3/4 of the way through and you’ve got a recipe for a dance floor killer! The A Side features punchy vocals from singer Carla Troiano. But it’s the instrumental on the flip that does it for us.
This is music for the B-Boys! We absolutely love it.
