The Traffic - SuperfreakWe’ve said it before and we’ll say it again. There must be something in the water in Melbourne, Australia. Because there’s some seriously funky music coming out of that city. Bands like Mayfield, Cookin on 3 Burners, Fulton Street and The Traffic are doing great things, to name just a few.

And there’s one thing all the aforementioned bands have in common and that is drummer/producer Ivan ‘Choi’ Khatchoyan. Ivan is most well known as the drummer for Cookin on 3 Burners but he has his fingers in a lot of pies these days.

He’s latest release comes from his studio band The Traffic. The idea behind this project is to put out super funky versions of well known tracks, and boy oh boy have they done it this time! In the past they have covered White Lines by Grand Master Flash, Fire by Jimi Hendrix and Smack My Bitch Up by The Prodigy.

This time they take on SuperFreak by Rick James on the A side and on the flip they re-work Like I Love You by Justin Timberlake and The Neptunes. The pick of the two tracks for us has to be SuperFreak.

We love these heavy heavy funk instrumentals that The Traffic are putting out. Check out both tracks below and head on over to bandcamp to purchase your copy. But be quick these 45’s sell out in super quick time!

If you like this then make sure you check out the latest edition of the Music for Modern Living Radio show. The show features Superfreak alongside 2 hours of the very best contemporary funk and soul music.
