I was invited by Criztoz Crizto to take part in this years Forty Five Day event. Taking place on 4th May 2021, Forty Five Day is a celebration of the humble 7″ vinyl. It aims for one day to collate and showcase 45s DJ’s from around the World playing 45s.
The first Forty Five Day took place last year. Criztoz, the main man behind Forty Five Day came up with the idea in late 2019. Initially the idea was to have a series of live gigs across the world. But with advent of Coronavirus, Criztoz had to adapt the concept somewhat. So, he sent out invites to as many vinyl DJ’s he could think of to submit mixes. He’s aim was to get 45 mixes, and had hoped he might get 20. The response was huge and for Forty Five Day 2020 a total of 52 Mixes from some of the worlds most respected vinyl DJ’s were posted. As well as a special 2 hour radio show, and a live 45 minute stream.
I was honoured to be invited by Criztoz to contribute to this years event. With much of the world still in varying stages of lockdown and restrictions still in place. The event will take much the same format as it did last year.
Check out the Forty Five Day Mixcloud page for all of this years amazing mixes. With well over 100 mixes, Forty Five Day 2021 is already shaping up to be a huge celebration of the 45 Vinyl Format!
On 4th May, Criztoz will be hosting the Forty Five Day live stream on Twitch. Go to the Facebook event page for all the details.
For my mix, I decided to put together a set of records that first got me into spinning Contemporary Funk and Soul music. Most of the tunes were released from about 2006 to 2010. There is music from Lack of Afro, The Haggis Horns, Sound Stylistics, Poets of Rhythm, Gizelle Smith, Kylie Auldist and more.
I hope you enjoy the mix. Likes, comments and shares are always appreciated. Thanks for tuning in!
