The Meltdown, one of Australia’s finest soul outfits are due to release the second single from their forthcoming album this Friday, June 17.
The Melbourne-based band, found themselves restricted during the pandemic. Hailing from what was reportedly the most locked down city in the world and with recording session after recording session cancelled. It was down to lead singer Simon Burke to literally record every single instrument himself on this new single ‘Side by Side‘ and several other songs. A testament to his musiciansip. This coupled with Simon’s flawless falsetto vocals, makes this soul music of the highest order. Simon says “Using predominantly falsetto is a point of difference, harking back to my love of Curtis Mayfield’s early band The Impressions”. You can certainly hear that influence in Simon’s voice.
We’ve been a big fan of The Meltdown since their self titled debut album was released in 2017. The 45 release of ‘Better Days‘ taken from the album is a particular favourite.
The Meltdown’s music is timeless, steeped in classic soul, jazz and blues. Fans of singers like Kelly Finnigan and Durand Jones will love Simon Burke’s vocals. The bands new album ‘It’s A Long Road‘ is due for release on Friday 29 July through Hopestreet Recordings. We’re hoping a tour will follow and that we get to catch this amazing band live.
