On 2nd December Australian premier funk and soul outfit The Bamboos will release their latest album.
Back in February 2021, it was a fairly emotional time for the band. Melbourne was just coming out of it’s first COVID lockdown. Saxophonist Damon Grant was making his return to the stage for the first time after defeating a life-threatening illness. Not only this but the band had just heard the sad news of the passing of Pierre Baroni and Dion Hirini. Both hugely important characters in the Melbourne music scene. Pierre having hosted the Soulgroove’66 radio show on community radio station PBSFM since 2003. Guitarist Dion, originally from New Zealand, but very much part of the Australian music scene having worked with Vika & Linda Bull, Paul Kelly, Tina Arena and Kasey Chambers among others.
This latest album was recorded live at the 2,500 seat Hamer Hall along with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. With over 50 people on stage it was something to behold. The mastermind of Ross Irwin, the bands trumpet player, who scored the entire arrangements for the orchestra. With recent events in the forefront of their minds, the result is a supercharged performance. Which was thankfully recorded and soon to be available for all to enjoy.
The album comes as a limited edition turquoise vinyl along with a digital download.
Pre-orders are open and you can reserve your copy from The Bamboos website.
