This is the first edition of my ‘New Music’ series of mixes, featuring the best new music from around the globe. In these mixes you can expect to hear an eclectic mix of funk, soul, jazz and much more.
In this first edition we have music from Speedometer, Nicola Conte, Lack of Afro, Smoove and Turrell and the much anticipated return of Cookin’ on 3 Burners. Happy listening!

1. Speedometer – Happy
Speedometer originally recorded this northern soul style instrumental version of Happy by Pharell Williams just for fun. But after posting it on YouTube it has received in excess off 22,000 views and numerous calls for it to be released. So, due to popular demand it has received an official release on Freestyle Records.

2. The Hi-Fly Orchestra ft Karl Frierson – Get Ready
The Hi-Fly Orchestra are an all acoustic jazz outfit, influenced by 60‘s jazz, latin and samba with a heavy dance groove. Much like the Dap-Kings they prefer vintage recording techniques, cramming the band into one room and recording in a jam session situation. Get Ready is a classy soulful number with dancefloor appeal.

3. Nicola Conte ft Bridgette Amofah – Freesouls
Freesouls is the first single to be released from Italian DJ, producer, composer and bandleader Nicola Conte’s fifth studio album. Freesouls has a laidback soulful jazzy groove. The kind of music you can expect to hear in the best European cocktail lounges.

4. The Droptones – Don’t Get Caught
San Francisco outfit The Droptones have the heavy funk and retro soul credentials in spades. Don’t Get Caught, from their debut 45 is a cover of the Hayes & Porter track. The cover stays true the original with vocalists Tiffany Austin and Lilan Kane showing off their fine voices complemented by one of the tightest funk bands around.

5. Saun and Starr – Hotshot
Hotshot is the debut single from Saun and Starr on Daptone Records. Saun and Starr are also known as the Dapettes, providing backing vocals for Sharon Jones and The Dap-kings. So you can expect some sweet sweet soul all backed up by the ‘Baddest Band in the Land’ – The Dap-Kings.

6. The Boogie Man – When The Funk Rains Down (Lowrider Version)
The Boogie Man is a new project from North London by the founders of Los Charly’s Orchestra. Getting the party started with their ultra funk / neo funk sound.

7. Smoove and Turrell – Lay It On Me
Lay it On Me is the debut singe from Smoove and Turrell’s third studio album. It’s a fast paced stomper. This Modern British Soul will appeal to the masses. Smoove and Turrell have been chamioned by DJ Craig Charles for some time now. Surely 2014 is the year that they hit the big time!

8. Calibro 35 – Vendetta
Limited to 450 copies worldwide, this 45 vinyl is taken from Calibro 35’s new LP on Record Kicks – Traditori Di Tutti. The band have been drawing attention from all the right players in the industry. Think library funk sounds and raw funk that should be seeing them get a call from Tarantino pretty soon to write the score to his next blockbuster.

9. The Getup – What if?
Hammond Breakbeat Funk outfit The Getup bring us their fourth single for Breakin’ Bread. Taken from their new album – Straight From The Hob. It’s a soul funk groover that will surely blow up any dancefloor. Just wait for that DJ friendly break.

10. Lack of Afro – Recipe for Love
Recipe for Love is the first single to be taken from Lack of Afro’s new long player – Music For Adverts. Featuring Jack Tyson-Charles on vocals the track has a northern soul feel to it. As you would expect from Lack of Afro the production is second to none. This tune will be playing over and over in your head for days.

11. Cookin’ on 3 Burners ft Kylie Auldist – Mind Made Up
After a 5 year hiatus, Cooking on 3 Burners are back. Mind Made Up is the first single from their forthcoming album – Blind Bet. This track showcases why Kylie Auldist is the number one contemporary soul vocalist in the world today. Snappy drums, crisp guitar and organ along with lush horns and strings all work to compliment Kylie’s vocals. A future classic!
